Silent Yin Yoga- A Journey Within

  • DDL Capoeira School, Streatham 136 Streatham High Road London, England, SW16 United Kingdom (map)

Yin Yoga is a slow, mindful practice during which lying and seated poses are passively held for 3-5 minutes. Long-held poses help to overcome restrictions in the fascia and other connective tissues, significantly improving range of motion. The stillness and quietness of this practice enables the nervous system to switch into 'rest and digest' mode and the mind to become completely engrossed in the present moment. Yin Yoga is a perfect counterbalance to Yang, active, competitive and fast-paced lifestyle many of us lead.

This workshop will be taught without words: the participants will follow the teacher demonstrating the poses and will stay in perfect silence for the whole duration of the pose, reducing sensory stimulation to minimum. The session will end with a long, silent relaxation. It's a wonderful opportunity to turn all the attention inwards and learn how to observe in a detached manner both the body and the mind. The awareness of the bodily sensations and discernment between discomfort and pain is the best way of building a safe and fulfilling yoga practice.

NOTE: It'd be useful but not necessary for the participant to have attended Yin Yoga in the past.
